Intermediate Herbalism: Applying Herbs to People

Saturdays 10-3: January 31, Feb 28, March 28, April 25- in person dates

Wednesdays 6-7:30pm online component: February 11, March 11, April 8

This class dives into how to apply plant medicines to people and conditions. We will build upon the knowledge of the foundations of herbalism course material, focusing on how to apply the knowledge of our relationships with plants to ourselves, friends, family and community. Our foundations of herbalism course is a good prerequisite for this course, but people with a strong base of herbalism from other backgrounds are very welcome to join.

Class content will consist of:

Understanding People’s Constitutions through the Humoral Temperaments

The humoral temperaments is a framework rooted in Greek and Arabic medicine that views individauls through the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. Learning a system for understanding a person’s constitution helps us to see them more clearly so that we may provide a deeper more nuanced quality of herbal support. We will explore how to identify patterns of hot, cold, dry and damp and how to use this as a way to assist in understanding ourselves and the people we interact with in a clearer way.

The Intake Process: How to Gather Information and Ask Good Questions

Learning how to effectively gather information is at the heart of being able to assist others. We will go over the intake process and how to ask good questions to better understand the people and conditions that present themselves.

The Art of Formulation & Dosages for an Individuals Needs

Formulation is a skilled blend of science and intuition that aims to support the intricate patterns within a person. This can include any combination of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of an individual.

When we craft formulas with intention and calibrate dosage with care, we offer deeper, more nuanced support, honoring the complexity of the human body and the layered intelligence of plants.

Consultations: Learning How to Put it all Together to Support an Individual’s Health

In these four classes Leslie will guide us through the process of live consultations with clients. Students will have multiple opportunities to hone these skills. Each class, students will practice giving and receiving a consultation with a class member. There will be an in-between session each month as a group to work through case studies together and a half hour private consultation call for each participant each month with Leslie for individual support.
